snakebite

fingers work clean parabolas of her cuticles
duck-billed mind for details distracted
by a first taste of everything not plannable
by a numb risk of rigid free zero
(shiver and snap)
balancing on rocks

the American dream is dead
crashing rootslong into buildings

happiness hits those closest hardest
a cowboy racing rattlesnake venom
a fire truck passing through multiplication tables

so you should play harmonica
so you should watch the news
so you should eat bon bons
one two three fofisiseveightntetwelve

– built from lines in unfinished poems written over the past week, all inspired by daily prompts in The Daily Poet.
