la mi do do so
siren, like swamp
something soon said
so mi re
steady, swagger, skull,
spent syringes, sax sax sax,
something, she sings
la so ti re la re
siren, like swamp
she speaks, squalling like from shake,
smoldering, stilted, stretched through
la ti la do re
something, she sings:
to be to to not to to not to be to to to
be be to to to to to be to be to to
not to be to not to to be be to to to be to not be to not be to to
so la la la re
snickeringly set shivering sound
showing shallow from structures
spanning several seconds’ space
shooting like social squawking sand shoes
suffering the same system,
the same settled salvation
to be to
to not to be
prompt: from one of Amaranth Borsuk’s prompts: this one being ‘the deletionist’ – in which a poet uses “the deletionist” add-on to automatically highlight phrases or words based on certain qualities in the article text – and then make poems from however many articles one might enjoy working with.
notes on the prompt: i’ve been going through a PJ Harvey renaissance lately, oblivious to her new album [what is wrong with me?]. i used five reviews of said new album for my material above. i wasn’t sure at first (as each article mostly pulled words that started with the same letter)…but then the Guardian’s review pulled the “to be or not to be” section, and i knew i could make it [kind of] work.
